The principle of the Low-Relief technique is to realistically reproduce a shape on a small thickness. For this kind of work, the engraver has to play with the light so that the patterns appear correctly to the naked eye. The goal is to show a three-dimensional effect. This technique requires reflexion and creativity because the shape has to appear correct into the light. Different tools can be used to imitate textures as fur, fabric, vegetation, etc.

A small layer of the surface around the produced shape is mechanically removed using the computer numerical control (CNC) method. The engraver starts on a flat surface and removes metal with a chisel to produce the desired shape.
